Did a Photo shoot with Phillip Kirk in st albans for a Competition he is entering. it involved us jumping around and playing on a Jeep, I should add that it was dark, thus making it more interesting. Phil then took seperate images using two or three off camera flashes, then photoshoped us all into the picture. I like the way the picture shows the potential movement from the car and the actual movement that we can achieve with such an object.

Reaching higher

I am currently involved in a project with Reece Chapman. The idea of this project is Reaching higher. Which is also a herts parkour "aspiration" as the saying isn't only revolving around the movement we do, and which we focus on in the video. Reaching Higher can also be taken metaphorically, like to push our boundaries and Reach levels we didn't think possible.

This video is a very exciting prospect, as it is being filmed well, and the movement I feel is reasonable and should make a good video.

short things

decided to start updating more regular and revamp this site, so I'm keeping posts much shorter, unless I feel an essay.

Coaching is going great, i am currently helping out at 3 classes a week, two on tuesday for under 12 and over 12 in st albans. the over 12's are showing great promise. also coaching on thursday in harpenden for under 12's

Life parkour life and more

ok so life is good at the moment. i have a beautiful and lovely girlfriend you helps me a lot than she knows but don't tell her because i don't want her to know this much ;)

Recently done some More photo shoots will philip kirk so check out his blog http://philip-kirk.blogspot.com/ recently did a night shoot in chesham and the stills look amazing so a huge thanks to him.

also my camera has finally been sent back after being sent off for repairs, so i can actually get started on a project idea i have using a head cam which i will get started on soon.

parkour is going great after my accident, i am getting much stronger and i believe I'm on a level that i was before my injury but i am looking to surpass the level i am at now as soon as i can. another point is my mental strength has improved greatly, I am over coming fear much better than i ever have. My only current "weakness2 is rail work, but that will come soon enough as i just have to resort to my training and not let my mind and fear take over.

another point completely random but cafe Nero is Superior to other coffee shops, unless it is free from costa.

At the moment i am currently helping coaching as gyms sessions run for parkour, it is going great at the moment and when I'm old enough i am looking to get qualified. i am currently looking to have a summer job working with children using my skills i have learnt, and i am looking to get a new first aid certificate to aid this.

only downer on my plans at the moment are my forthcoming as level exams but once they are over the work will be put in for parkour.

last thing i have my driving test on the 6th of may wish me luck.

Catching up

God its been a while since my last post like, 5 months, sorry about that lots of things have been happening and things.

There have been two big things happen to me since my last post. one is i broke my urethra which i will explain about in a bit, the other is I have found a beautiful girlfriend, who has made my life a bit brighter recently, and helps me pushy my self a bit further and harder each session i have.

as for breaking my uretha it is all in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWcf2wLKjYI

so check that out.

i was given the all clear on the 2nd of feburary and i have been training hard since then.

Recently i invested some time into the book, the way of the peacefull warrior by dan millman, and that has changed my mind set on a few things. on thing from the book has stuck out. Dan and Soch are having a talk, Soch asks "where are you?" dan answer "here" soch-"time is it?" Dan-"now" soch-"what are you?" dan-"this moment" This idea of being here now and being this moment in time has inspired me alot recently, helping me get over fear, and achieving my potential. This has lead me to training much harder and taking on new chalanges. i have started conditioning a great deal more. as well as suplimenting my training with swimming once a week, currently i am doing 64 lengths each time, which is equal to a mile. It has also lead me to new ideas. for example this summer i plan to climb ben nevis and snowdonia. and next summer i plan to cycle to lisse and train. I am starting to train for these things now so i am successfull and so i don't have to push to hard later on and then burn out.

Expect more updates soon, they will come thick at fast so watch this space.

healthy 6 weeks

I have taken the inspiration of this from Reece Chapman's blog. He and I have both decided we want to better our selves in the way we live our life.

So from Monday the 6th till November 10th i will be focusing on healthy living, eating and everything else in my life. I hope that by doing this my Parkour will improve as well as my attitude and mentality etc,a nd i hope i can take some of these things and carry them on for a longer period of time.

I plan to work out twice a week, one being directly parkour related based on repetitions. The other body weight and also weigthed exercises. I also plan to jog twice a week.

i will plan a time table and get back to Y'all

peace out

Training ideas

Recently i have been thinking alot about my training and about why people are better than me. the simple answer is the have practiced more, but what is practice? and how do people practice? and how can i make that better?

i have recently started thinking about this since I heard about Tariq's fall and witness the change that had on him mentally, but my ideas took complete form recently while I was visiting Cambridge to training with people from up there.
The inspiration that has made my ideas form comes from two people Tariq and Jin. Firstly Jin, i don't really understand why this affect me so much but it made me realise a problem that has been occurring in St. Albans at the moment and possibly else where. In St albans people say they are coming out to train, but they are coming out to jam. In my opinion many people come out and try new things etc, which does have to be a part of your training but it shouldn't be the only part. This i will come onto later and i will also talk about Tariq's contrabution to my ideas are because we are in a very simalar mind set at the moment.

Time to answer my questions.

Why are people better than others?

well this answer is obvious, normally it is because they have been training longer, but what does that actually meen? It means they have done more repetitions, more conditioning more everything.

like I said earlier, when people go out to train, all they do is try and make them selves do something different, they see this as progression which it is, but this sin't the best, the most efficiant way of training. Sure you may land something new each session or every other session, but if you go to do a new precision are you likely to land it perfectly first time? No. But why can for instance philip doyle land it so well, practice, he has practice precisions, over and over again, repetition.

So this is the key to training to be able to perform every time correctly, repetition. The more you practice something the more your body is acustomed to the feeling of flight, the posture, and angles needed to land precisions. One extra point before i move onto other ideas on training, when doing repetitions, if you are focusing on running precisions, do one over and over again, either leg, at first mentally decide then go with the length of run and jump of either. repeat up to a set number, when you reach it if you ahve it nice on both legs move onto a different running precision and drill that up to a set number on each leg and until its nice. After that move onto another aspect of training, different muscle groups and maybe a type i am going to explorer in a second, but the next time you pass these running precision, run at it take of on either leg and see if you stick it well, if so your training was good, if not you know you need to do it agai when you are fit. This is progression

Conditioning ideas.

In cambridge i watched Jin a great deal observing his conditioning techniques etc. While he was out he spent alot of time on circuites, which again is somthing we don't really do enough of, but it wasn;t jsut treversing, but precision and armjumps etc, this way you are working techniquley etc.

Another idea i noticed Jin doing i balancing, balance in different ways, for instance quadrapead, or with your hands between your legs, you can find some ideas from this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqaRJEPVPfk

but my point is, this type of training on rails works so many things, by putting your body in awkward positions, trains strength, balance, mucular endurance, co-ordination, flexability and many more.

To conclude, parkour training should be training, going out to prefect technique and gain strength, not only to do new things, yes that has to be a part of your training or tedium will start to affect you, but alot of your training, and alot more than most of you do know, should be conditioning and perfecting techniques and each and every compontect of fitness:-
  • Power
  • Co-ordination
  • flexability
  • Agilty
  • Balance
  • body Composition
  • Reactions
  • Muscular Endurance
  • Cardiovascular Endurance
  • Speed
  • Strength
Each technique of training i have mentoioned aboeve trains each and every component of fitness, if applied correctly

thanks for reading i hope these things help, any messages on you progress and ideas on this post is more than welcome, i like every one else is learning and im welcome to ideas.
